Why you may need to hire an editor

Four Eyes Edit recently attended the Self-Publishers Book Expo over the weekend.
One of the workshops was called “Let a professional editor be your best friend.”

We couldn’t agree more.

When it comes to your manuscript, you want to present the best possible book that you can to potential publishers, agents, or even readers (if you decide to go the self-publishing route). Every writer needs someone objective to look at his or her work. A best friend or family member may not be as well-equipped to do this as a professional editor can be.

Even famous authors such as Mary Higgins Clark and F. Scott Fitzgerald needed an editor to pinpoint strengths and weaknesses of their rough drafts.

A good editor will let you know for example, when you are telling, not showing.
She will also tell you, gently, where the pace of the story drags. There might be too much exposition or narrative summary that goes on and on for several pages. Perhaps the scene you’ve written needs more easy beats or action added to allow your reader to picture it more easily.

Have you read aloud your dialogue lately? You may be shocked to discover it sounds stilted and wooden. Good dialogue is not as easy to write as one might think. Your friendly, neighborhood Four Eyes Editors can help you with all of the above and much more.

Don’t you owe it to yourself to be the best possible writer you can be?
